The Hapuku Kitchen culinary vehicle on the Kaikōura coast
Hapuku Kitchen · Culinary Adventures

The road is part of the meal.

Private, chef-hosted journeys through the landscapes, people and stories of coastal Aotearoa — where every stop can become something to taste.

More than a transfer.
More than a food tour.

A Hapuku Kitchen Culinary Adventure is an immersive day on the road with a chef as your host. You don't simply visit wineries or stop for tastings — you forage, harvest, taste, cook and meet the people behind the food, all while travelling through one of New Zealand's most dramatic food regions.

Our aim is simple: to share this place the way we know it. Through manaakitanga — warm hospitality, generosity and care — and a deep respect for the land, the sea and the seasons that shape what we eat.

Gather

Wild coastal herbs picked roadside, ingredients collected straight from growers, seafood from the water that morning. Taste food in the place it comes from.

Prepare

Simple dishes made together beside the Pacific, over fire by a river, or at a farm gate — small, chef-led food moments that unfold through the day.

Meet a grower, taste at the source, collect what's at its best today.

Lunch

Cooked over fire

Seasonal food prepared beside a river, beach or vineyard.

Afternoon

With the makers

A tasting, a story, an unplanned detour that becomes the highlight.

Evening

Arrive, well fed

Your host

Chris — chef, storyteller, local.

Chris (Ngāti Kurī, Kāti Huirapa ki Puketeraki) hosts every adventure, bringing a local perspective to the connections between landscape, food-gathering traditions, the seasons and the place of food in Aotearoa.

These conversations arise naturally along the way — the journey is deliberately unhurried, built around connection and curiosity rather than a checklist of sights.

Exceptional food experiences begin with people, place and conversation.
