Travel

By Road

One main road traverses the East Coast of the South Island - State Highway 1. Hapuku Kitchen is conveniently located just off the highway - the first property on Parsons Road (look for the sign on the gate).

From the South Hapuku Kitchen is easily accessibly within a 2.5 hour drive from Christchurch through the beautiful Waipara wine valley and Cheviot through to Kaikōura. We are approximately 7 km north of Kaikōura.

From the North it’s just as easy to find us with a 2 hour drive from Picton and 1.5 hours from Blenheim. Offering panoramic views of the coastline, pull over at the Ohau Point viewing area to watch the fur seal colony just 20 minutes north from us.

By Train

With the sea stretching to the horizon in the east and the Kaikōura mountains stretching to the sky in the west, the Coastal Pacific journey between Picton and Christchurch is one of the most astonishingly beautiful in New Zealand.

FAQs

What to Wear?

If you’re joining us for a cooking experience, please wear comfortable clothing and shoes. As well as preparing food in the kitchen, we’ll also be harvesting from the garden so flat, closed-toed shoes are recommended. We will provide gumboots (wellies/rubber boots) if it is wet outdoors.

What if it’s Wet or Windy?

Rain or shine our experiences will go ahead, however a raincoat or windbreaker is advised as we will spend some time outside harvesting produce from the gardens.

Do I Need to be an Experienced Cook to Attend?

Not at all - our experiences are for cooks at all levels. Our classes are small and hands-on which enables us to provide guidance to each and every guest.

Do You Cater for Dietary Requirements or Food Allergies?

When making your booking, please inform our team about any food allergies. While we do our best to cater for dietary requirements (eg. dairy and gluten) we may not be able to cater for all requests. Please contact us to discuss this further.

We are unable to cater for those on a Paleo, Vegan or Halal diet as part of our regular classes, however we are more than happy to arrange a private class to accommodate specific food restrictions.

How Many Guests are in Each Class?

Our full day and half day experiences are small with a maximum of 8 guests per class. If you would like a private class for a smaller or larger group, please email us to discuss the options.

Can Children Attend the Classes?

Our experiences are best suited for adults and teenagers however we are happy to arrange a private class to accommodate families with young children - they’re a lot of fun! Please contact us via email to discuss further.

What is the Cancellation Policy?

As our classes are a very intimate size of 8 we are unable to offer refunds if you are unable attend. 30 days notice is required if you wish to transfer to another date or to keep your funds in credit for another time. You are welcome to offer your place to a friend if you cannot attend.

Gift vouchers and Supper Club bookings are non-refundable.
