We are now open!!!

At Hapuku Kitchen, food is our passion – it connects us with the land, sea and with each other.

We are now delighted to welcome you to our home, our farm, our farm based cooking school

Our aim is to create a place where people can experience the best of New Zealand cuisine and rediscover the simple pleasures of growing, foraging, gathering, catching, cooking and sharing quality produce with others.

We look forward to welcoming you into our home at Hāpuku, Few places in the world can boast of such natural wonders offered by land and sea in this unique region.

Local specialties include hāpuku (grouper), blue cod, mussels, paua (abalone), the town’s namesake crayfish (lobster), wild rabbit, venison, pork, goat and thar.

What we offer?

Over time we will increase our offering and we will offer a mix of half day and full-day, hands-on cooking experiences. Up to classes of 10 participants along with private class options. All will start with our own freshly roasted coffee before heading outdoors to forage in the garden and collect produce from our rare breed animals. Classes will then bring all their wares back to the kitchen and start preparing the menu of the day.

After creating a number of stunning dishes the class will then sit down and enjoy their creations over a long lunch matched to some of NZ’s best wine.

Ingredients are sourced from our own gardens and small farm, local hunters, fishermen and farmers. Returning to the kitchen, together we prepare and cook a seasonal feast, explore our extensive cookbook library and enjoy stunning views of the Kaikōura coast and mountain range. We also intend on running dedicated classes including bakery days, whole hog cooking and charcuterie, Catch & Cook fishing classes, Cheese making, pasta making, plus many other seasonal focused events.
